What is a heart stent? how it works and when we need a stent

heart stent

What is a heart stent? How it works and when we need a stent. Most of the time, a heart attack occurs unexpectedly detected in a fatal stage.

We all know that our heart is a pumping machine. It pumps blood to every organ of our body through capillaries and blood vessels for every cell—the blood vessels which supply oxygen-rich blood called arteries. Then arteries supply blood to heart muscle called coronary arteries.

Sometimes the buildup of plaque in your coronary arteries can lead to blood clots, which cause a heart attack. Doctors may use stents to treat this narrowing due to coronary artery diseases.

What is a Stent?

A heart stent is a small wire mesh tube inserted into a narrowed or blocked coronary artery. Some of the heart stents are made of wire mesh and are permanent.

Stent

Some made of fiber. These are called stent-grafts and often used for large arteries. Stuff that dissolves in our body. They coated with medicine, which slowly releases into our arteries not to be blocked again.

How do Coronary arteries get blocked?

Due to the high consumption of oily food, saturated and trans fats and high alcohol consumption can cause cholesterol-containing deposits called plaque to build up inside the arteries,

thereby creating a blockage in the blood vessels that supply our heart with blood, oxygen, and nutrients. It is called Coronary artery disease. When plaque builds up, it narrows our coronary arteries, decreasing blood flow to the heart.

Therefore, the reduced blood flow may cause chest pain is commonly known as angina pain, shortness of breath, or other coronary artery disease signs and symptoms. When the artery is 100% blocked, a heart attack is triggered.

When do we need a Stent?

Stent in heart

In the case of a heart attack, when a blood clot forms in a partially clogged artery and completely blocks the flow of blood, this is when a stent can last a lifetime. A stent has placed with a small cut in the blood vessel of the waist, arm, or neck.

After that, a thin tube called a catheter passed through the blood vessel of the blocked artery. There is a small balloon at the end of the machine. As the catheter approaches the blocked site, the balloon is inflated, which widens the blood artery to re-flow.

The catheter and balloon then removed, but the stent remains inside to keep the artery open. By opening the blocked artery and restoring blood flow, the stent can prevent damage to your heart muscle and reduce heart failure or even death.

After receiving a stent, blood flow to the heart will usually resume, and the person will experience less chest pain.

The stent can undoubtedly help remove the heart's blockage, but it cannot prevent plaque from preventing buildup inside the arteries and therefore prevent a heart attack.

But with a slight change in our lifestyle, we can avoid these blockages, such as exercising regularly, losing a few pounds, reducing smoking if a person is overweight, reducing stress, and all that the doctor says Take medicines.

After receiving a stent, you may return to work within ten days, and if you are not feeling well and safe, consult a doctor and explain your activities.
